The topic of back pain - a constant problem. This is shown by the representative survey conducted by Aeris GmbH in cooperation with the YouGov Institute: 41 percent of employed people in Germany suffer from back pain at work. With currently around 44.85 million employees in Germany, around 18.4 million people are affected.
Aeris has also investigated the effects of back pain on personal health and professional performance. Of the approximately 18.4 million employees with back pain,
- 71 percent say that their overall health and well-being are impaired by the condition (approx. 13.1 million)
- 75 percent say that their performance is limited as a result (approx. 13.8 million)
Movement at work – an economic factor
The results of the study suggest that most workplaces in Germany are not back-friendly and do not meet people's natural need for movement. As a result, employees spend most of their day sitting down - often up to nine hours. Continuous movement is extremely important for a healthy back and can help with acute pain as well as prevent back problems in the long term.
The consequences of a sedentary day are not only serious for the employee, who pays with his health. The increased absence from work and reduced productivity caused by sitting too long and rigidly also cost employers billions. The figures speak for themselves: more than 60 million days of absence in Germany are due to problems with the musculoskeletal system and back problems. That is 8.3 percent of all absences*. The topics of exercise and back health should therefore be high on the agenda for German companies.
The Aeris idea: Bring natural movement into sitting
The ergonomic office chair Aeris Swopper activates the muscles and supports you in more movement while sitting.
Companies are therefore well advised to invest in office furniture that ensures continuous movement while working. The company Aeris has developed special movement concepts and active chairs that allow a lot of movement when sitting or standing at the workplace is unavoidable. This also integrates more movement into everyday life. For example, the active seat Aeris Swopper allows a lot of movement in all directions thanks to its 3D technology. Dynamic sitting on the Aeris Swopper is like walking and is therefore the most natural movement for humans.
The Aeris Swopper activates the muscles and supports frequent position changes. You move more than twice as much on it as on conventional office chairs - and that's great for your back. And with more movement, more energy flows - in the body and in the head. That means fewer days off work and higher productivity. It's worth looking into this topic. Humanly and economically. Not just on Back Health Day.
