Our bodies are designed for movement. From a genetic perspective, we still inhabit the body of a Stone Age human, for whom movement was essential for survival: walking, running, bending down, climbing – everyday movements. The fact that we now spend most of our days sitting down was not part of nature’s plan. And that is precisely what is making us ill.
That is why we have made it our mission to bring more exercise into your lives and thereby promote better health, wellbeing and an overall better quality of life.
The emergence of a revolutionary idea
How it all began...
The story of Aeris begins in 1990 with an observation made in Dorothea Prodinger-Glöckl’s physiotherapy practice: exercise helps. Yet in everyday life, this is quickly forgotten. Her husband, Josef Glöckl, was also familiar with the problem and, due to his back pain, often worked whilst sitting on a medicine ball. “Why don’t you invent something so that people don’t keep ruining their health by sitting at their desks?” his wife suggested to the trained engineer. No sooner said than done. In the garage, Josef Glöckl began tinkering, sketching and building his first prototypes. In 1996, this garage idea became a genuine world first: the Aeris Swopper was the first office chair designed to encourage movement. “Even with the very first prototype, you could tell: this is something completely different – a completely new seating experience,” says Josef Glöckl.
The Birth of the Aeris Swopper
2020: The Swopper gets a new look
Twenty-four years after its debut, the Aeris Swopper has been given a facelift. With a modernised design, an expanded range of fabrics and colours, and the option to choose between a black or a new white frame, it now complements any style even better. The spring settings have also been expanded: with a choice between Standard, High and Low, the seating experience can now be tailored even more to individual preferences. A classic that moves with the times and remains in motion to this day.
The Aeris family is growing
1996 - 2018
1996: The Aeris Swopper marked the beginning of the seating revolution.
2006: Ten years later, the Aeris Muvman – the first standing chair designed for active working – followed.
2008: Shortly afterwards, the Swopper was developed specifically for children – the Aeris Swoppster.
2012: In response to demand for an ergonomic office chair with a backrest, the Aeris 3Dee was created.
2014: With the stylish rocking chair Aeris Oyo, we expanded our range to include a piece of movable lounge furniture.
2018: With the Aeris Muvmat, the first active standing mat for the workplace, we brought movement to standing too.
2006: Ten years later, the Aeris Muvman – the first standing chair designed for active working – followed.
2008: Shortly afterwards, the Swopper was developed specifically for children – the Aeris Swoppster.
2012: In response to demand for an ergonomic office chair with a backrest, the Aeris 3Dee was created.

2020: The Aeris Muvman Industry brought ergonomic working to sensitive environments such as laboratories and production facilities.
2022: With the Aeris Active Office Desk, we expanded our portfolio to include height-adjustable desks for the first time.
2023: The Aeris Numo Task range, featuring a spring strut or column, opened up new possibilities for dynamic working.
2023: This was complemented by the Aeris Numo Comfort range for active and comfortable meetings.
2025: The Aeris Linu was introduced as a new ergonomic office and conference chair, setting new standards for active sitting with its advanced Flex kinematics.
